Venerable Lama Konchok Sonam Teachings, Vajrasattva Empowerment, & Phowa Transmission, July 12 – 14, 2024
We are delighted to share with you that Venerable Lama Konchok Sonam, Spiritual Director of the Drikung Meditation Center in Danvers, MA, will be visiting us in Pittsburgh for teachings and an empowerment from July 12 – 14, 2024. The teachings are open to all. In-person space is limited so please register as early as possible.
The schedule of teachings will be as follows (EST/New York time):
Friday July 12
7pm – 8:30pm: Dharma teachings
Saturday July 13
10am – 12pm: Empowerment of Vajrasattva (in-person only)
2pm – 4pm: Vajrasattva instruction and practice
Sunday July 14
10am – 12pm: Phowa Transmission & History
2pm – 4pm: Phowa practice and instruction
Zoom: The Saturday Empowerment is in-person only. Other practices and teachings will be shared on Zoom. We will send registrants the Zoom link before the teaching weekend.
All teachings will be held at Three Rivers Tibetan Cultural Center, 7313 Florence Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15218 If attending in person, you may bring a lunch or go out. The center will provide tea / coffee.
The suggested donation for these teachings is in-person: $80 for the entire weekend, $20 for Friday, and $30 for Saturday or Sunday; Zoom: $60 for the weekend or $20 per day. Donations for this event may be made online here, at the center in the donation box, or Zelle (the Zelle QR code is included at the bottom of this email!). Your donations will support TRTCC’s many teaching and cultural events year round. No one will be turned away from Dharma teachings for insufficient funds.
It is also customary to offer a khata and dana to our teachers at the end of the teachings as a gesture of gratitude for their kindness and appreciation for their teachings. To learn more about khata offerings and dana, follow this link.

Venerable Lama Sonam’s Bio
Ven. Lama Konchok Sonam is the current resident spiritual director of Drikung Meditation Center in Danvers, Massachusetts. He began his Buddhist training at a young age in the Drikung Kagyu lineage in Tibet, and ordained as a monk at the age of 18. He has received teachings and blessings from many great scholars and masters in Tibetan Buddhism, and has been in the United States since 2003, giving teachings in fluent English.
Known for his warm and humorous, down-to-earth teaching styles, Lama Sonam has been a devoted dharma and meditation teacher and a tireless community service provider. He has come to TRTCC numerous times in the past years, offering a wide range of teaching topics including wisdom deity empowerments and practices, and the series on Omniscient Rigdzin Choedrak’s Mind-Training. In a 5-day open event in February 2018, he and our resident teacher Ven. Lama Kalsang constructed a Chenrezig Sand Mandala at the Pittsburgh Center For The Arts, sending the blessings of peace and loving kindness of the mandala to all beings and everywhere in the world.
