Nyungne Practice with Ven. Lama Kalsang May 24-27, 2021

Nyungne Practice
with Ven. Lama Kalsang
May 24-27, 2021

Monday, May 24, 8pm-9pm
Tuesday, May 25, 10am-12:00pm; 7pm-9pm
Wednesday, May 26, 10am-12pm; 7pm-9pm
Thursday, May 27, 7am-8am

Nyungne is a special practice of the thousand-armed Chenrezig. It is a retreat of body, speech and mind, which lasts two and a half days. Nyungne combines a commitment to fasting and silence, with prostrations or circumambulations (as your physical condition allows). This year we are offering this opportunity to participate both online and at the center.

On Monday evening, Lama Kalsang will give us instructions on how to observe the Eight Mahayana Precepts during the retreat. Participants will observe the Eight Precepts beginning on Tuesday morning and ending Thursday morning, practicing meditation, visualization, and mantra of the Thousand-Armed Chenrezig at each session.

For participants, fasting will begin after lunch on Tuesday, with no food until conclusion on Thursday morning. Tea and liquids are permitted until Wednesday morning, Saga Dawa Duchen, which will also be a day of silence.

Participants may also do a Nyingne practice which entails taking the 8 Mahayana Precepts Vow, not eating after lunch and observing silence.  Water can be consumed as needed.

During this phase of reopening, attendance at the center is limited to 5 people. To attend just send an email to TRTCC@threeriverstibetancc.org at least 24 hours before the practice, and we’ll let you know if there is still space. Only people who are fully vaccinated can attend practices in person.
